How to identify obesity in cats

How to identify obesity in cats

Posted on by SitesReady

I have a kitten in my house, he is 3 months old, like most, my population is purebred and in his 3 months this kitten weighs one and a half kg and does not look fat. I decided to find out a lot or something. I have gathered a lot of information on this issue, which I would like to share with you.

Naturally, cats, like other animals, may experience problems due to being overweight. Obesity is caused by metabolic problems or overeating that occurs in apartments, they lead a final measurable lifestyle, and almost do not expend energy on movement, many owners do not play with them, which is why they often suffer from obesity.

Excess fat has the ultimate negative impact on the overall health of your pet. These cats are usually at risk for cardiovascular disease, arthritis and many other diseases. Obese cats (very large amounts of normal weight) have difficulty moving and also have difficulty breathing. Pet owners should make sure to monitor the weight of the cat and if you maintain the right weight it will extend the life of your pet.

Ideal weight for each pet and breed. After reading a lot of articles, I realized that cat breeding is the main parameter on which its ideal weight depends. Larger breeds of cats, for example Maine Kuns, can easily weigh more than 8 kilograms and at the same time a cat may not show any signs of obesity and small breeds may have three kilograms or even signs of obesity. Cats and cats also weigh differently, but the cardinality of the difference depends on the breed. Sterilized cats need fewer calories to maintain weight, usually within a third, the weight rate does not depend on sterilization. Also, weight gain after sterilization is not normal – it is not natural.

How to detect obesity in pets:

  1. The size of the abdomen has increased significantly
  2. During palpitations, the chest has a significant fat layer

A small layer of fat should be fine and clear, but if it is not, your ribs should be able to swell easily. An obese cat is immediately visible – a big belly, moves with difficulty, cannot lick itself completely.
Obesity patients will certainly help to get rid of excess weight, but it is important to know that it is impossible to get rid of weight suddenly, it can have negative consequences, the process of weight loss should be slow. Also, be sure to check with your veterinarian for a diet plan.
